About Misneach
We’re a small family farm located between the marshes of Corcoran, Minnesota. We strive to grow high quality produce and eggs while doing what we can to improve our local ecosystem - including building healthy soil by minimizing tillage, using cover crops, and making compost. We also support beneficial insect and pollinator populations by growing native plants and not using pesticides.
Our name, Misneach, comes from the gaelic term for courage - which felt appropriate since none of us come from a farming background. Getting started has taken patience, humility, and a firm belief that good food can be grown responsibly.
We (Beth and Joe) knew we wanted to start our family somewhere that had room to grow and where we could spend lots of time outdoors. We also knew we would need help, so we invited Beth’s parents (Bill and Jean of McGarry’s Pub) along and the four of us settled in Corcoran. We built a farmhouse we could share and as soon as the snow melted in 2017 we started planting. Now there’s six of us and we intensively grow on about half an acre - which includes our hoop house and permanent field beds. Along with annual vegetables we’ve planted asparagus, strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, apple trees, and pear trees. As part of our farm improvement plan, we planted 6 acres of native prairie and flowering shrubs during the summer of 2021. We’re novice beekeepers and stewards of an ever growing flock of laying hens (who are also a large part of our compost production). Each year we learn, we grow better, and we have fun.
